DESCRIPTION:The MASK We Wear, the Questions We ASK: Rethinking the American Promise is a teach-in led by Monique Ekaete Bassey focusing on the ways artworks included in Hyphen American: Intersections of Identity reveal how American ideals are often hidden or disguised through myth, selective history, or romanticized imagery, while also showing resilience and the possibility of hope once those coverings are removed. By unmasking what has been hidden, we create space not only for accountability, but for reimagining a more just and hopeful future. \n  \n  \n This teach-in is free and open to everyone 16 years and older. Registration is encouraged.  \n  \n  \n   \n  \n  \n About Monique Ekaete Bassey \n  \n  \n Monique Bassey is a visiting assistant professor with the Landscape Architecture Program at University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Bassey’s teaching interests and experience include design studios with a focus on environmental and social justice as well as landscape technology courses on grading, materials and methods, and construction detailing. \n  \n  \n Bassey is an active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). She currently serves on the national ASLA Executive Committee and Board of Trustees as the vice president of communications. Additionally, she is a passionate member of the Black Landscape Architects Network (BlackLAN) and serves on the emerging professionals committee. \n  \n  \n Please note that meter parking on 12th and R streets is currently unavailable due to construction. The Que Place Garage and the Larson Building Garage remain available for parking for a fee. \n
